The 2yk Galerie is pleased to announce its division during its summer exhibition. Directed by Veit Stratmann the visitors will experience the room completely changed by glass and steel. A transparent wall divides the entire gallery space in two halfes constituting a barrier visually light but physically an enormous limitation. The identity of spaces and their analysis is the major theme of Veit Stratmann’s artistic work. He redefines the spaces’ contents and esthetics to a great effect by interventions that are as simple as effective. At the same time he calls their status into question. For his last project he divided the complete building of a Kunsthalle by the use of plaster stones. Unlike the exhibition at Staint Nazaire the work in Berlin admits a permanent look to the inaccessible half. Impossible to go across. The experience of the loss, of the impossibility to go over there becomes an integral part of the art work encouraging the viewer to think about this specific place. The point is first of all not to simply look at the art work and consume it but rather to put oneself into the position of the piece, reflecting anew on the space, that is to say on the world. Veit Stratmann (born in 1960 at Bochum) lives and works in Paris. Since the beginning of the nineties he works on specific space concepts and on objects in the public space which remind of everyday things, elements of architecture or furnishings but give no indication how to use them. In Germany, Veit Stratmann last put up his objects in the castle grounds for the Badische Kunstverein, Karlsruhe.
