Christine Phal created her first art gallery in 1990, in the rue Keller at the Bastille. Her aims are to let the audience know about the paintings she discovers, to share her feelings as she enters in some studios and to make a society of collectors appreciate them, to help artists in obtaining notoriety. But time are hard and so as not to give in, she becomes an art’s nomadic, occupying temporary places in areas where no one expects to see contemporary art. But that is what interests her : to meet an inexperienced audience who, as they are passing by, dare tackling the artists’ universe which is so fascinating. We will meet the Galerie Phal for different periods at addresses as unexpected as avenue Kléber, avenue Montaigne, at the Forum des Halles, the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, etc. Since October 2000, the art gallery settled in rue Mazarine. The aims haven’t changed and the main artists who shared her nomadic life are still there. Only the expositions’ rhythm adjusted itself to the life of the area and, above all, the place is perfect for keeping the artists’ works which she presents in a permanent way ; mostly painters who enjoy painting in the tactile meaning of the word. Private exhibitions and a few thematic exhibitions alternatively take place, which allows the Galerie’s artists to meet guests who express themselves in other styles such as photo, video, sculpture.
