Sala Parés, with its 125-year history, is a landmark in Barcelona’s artistic scene due both to its history and to its projection within the current creative scene. A good part of the trends that have characterized art since the end of the 19th century has been seen in this art gallery.
Today the gallery has a stable group of more than thirty artists from the figuration style, understood in a broad sense and as being in constant evolution. The gallery has promoted, from its very beginnings, the formation and broadening of important museums, institutional and private collections. It has also promoted Barcelona’s cultural life through various conferences, talks and concerts, which on some occasions have been historic. More than 80,000 people visit the Sala Parés Gallery every year. Exhibitions of great painters such as Mariano Fortuny, Ramon Martí Alsina, Joaquim Vayreda, Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Joaquim Mir, Francesc Gimeno, Isidre Nonell, Pablo Picasso, Hermen Anglada Camarasa, Ignacio Zuloaga, Darío de Regoyos, among others, have marked an era of the gallery. The works of these artists can be seen in the “Famous Paintings” exhibition with under such name the gallery presents twice a year.
The history of the Sala Parés Gallery is marked by its continuity and a constant sense of renewal provided by its group of artists. Since 1925, when the gallery was taken oven by the Maragall family, it has welcomed painters from new generations such as Josep de Togores, Manolo Hugué, Manuel Humbert, Emili Grau Sala, Josep Mompou, Miquel Villà, and subsequently Josep Amat, Mallol Suazo, Carlos Nadal, Ramon Pichot, Josep Puidengolas, Josep Roca Sastre among others, whose works are recognized on a national scale as well as internationally. The gallery’s current artists follow various trends starting from post-Impressionism to Realism, to some of the latest ones that characterize the end of the 20th century. These painters are involved in the twenty or so exhibitions that the gallery puts on annually as well as those that are promoted in various European and American capital cities. The gallery has been awarding a prize to ‘Young Painters’ since 1958, which every year 200 Spanish artists vie for and which contributes to promoting new values and to networking new clients with art lovers. The Sala Parés Gallery looks to the future although it feels committed to the latest trends and considers itself to be open to any new ones. It has more than 100 years’ experience of dedication to the art world, culture and art collecting. More information www.salapares.com
